Red Harvest: New world rage music
19/07/03 || Lord K Philipson
It feels like Red Harvest have been around for some 6000 years. I think these fellas released some albums at Black Mark back in the early 90’s, but I might as well be completely wrong. Like I ever check out facts, fuck you.
I was actually kinda anxious to get this cd into my player, coz for some reason I thought I’d really dig them. What I based those thoughts on though, I couldn’t tell even under gunpoint. Norwegian it is and we all know that nowadays, Norway = black metal. So, is it? No, it’s not black metal. I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but after the encounter with 1349, me and black metal better take a few hours break from each other. We can still be friends though. Or, that’s what I felt before listening to the album anyways.
Red Harvest have decided that the world needs some industrial tunes with tons of layers of weird space-sounds. Writing actual songs isn’t very high up on these guys’ list, lemme tell you that. Just listen to “Move or be moved (preview)”, a perfect example how NOT to write music. Songs that are based on weird noises, one worse than the other, isn’t something that I gladly stroke my penis to with a smile. I am sure that Red Harvest never wanted me to either. This is cacophony for most parts, cacophony of the sort I don’t understand one bit I might add. There are probably people out there who thinks this album is the best thing since color-tv, I am most definitely not one of them idiots.
For some reason I have the feeling these monkeys didn’t sound like this always, coz I am quite sure they used to be more thrashy back in the days at Black Mark, if they ever were there. This might be a side-effect of the LSD I just took, or just something that’s been lying around in my subconscious for years. Like I don’t have anything else to think of. Blow me.
Anyways, what it comes down to is that Red Harvest is actually kinda fuck-crappy and all. And I’m not very easily impressed with fuck-crappy bands as of late. I have to give them some cred though as they try to stroke my balls gently with some drum’n‘bass stuff here and there. Not enough to save the whole album though, but at least that saves this album from being a total disaster. These parts appear as often as hair on Kerry Kings’ head, but when they do, it’s a little light in the darkness that is this album. And I don’t mean that darkness is good this time, which it usually is. Just so you know.
But sadly enough, not much, if anything, can save this album from getting bashed. Coz what it comes down to really, is that Red Harvest suck. I just learned that this album seems to be an old one re-issued. Well, I received it to review and so I did. I´m not sure about the whole thing and actually I don’t care too much either. Maybe they are brilliant as fuck today, but as far as this album goes… Well, you read the review, didn’t you?
2,5/10.
